Katsina Dolls: Traditional

According to Hopi tradition, Katsina dolls are given to children during annual ceremonies. These carvings are then hung on a wall of the family home as a reminder of the Katsinas' importance to everyday Hopi life. These dolls are not carved in as fine detail as the dolls made for commercial sale, but they are accurate in every detail. The gallery has a nice selection available, primarily from 1930 to 1960.
