Artist signature of Logan Dallas, Hopi Pueblo ArtistThis exceptional carving of the He'e'e Katsina, created by Logan Dallas, is meticulously detailed. The katsina holds a bow in her left hand and a rattle in her right, embodying her dynamic role in Hopi Pueblo tradition.

He'e'e, also known as He'wuhti, is the Warrior Maid and holds a unique place in Hopi culture. Her most striking appearances occur during the Pachavu ceremonies, although she is also seen in the Powamu celebrations. Her origin stems from a legendary story of bravery and quick thinking.

Tradition tells of a young girl who, upon spotting enemies approaching her village while her mother was styling her hair, rushed to warn the community. With one hair whorl completed and the other side hanging loose, she grabbed a bow, quiver, and arrows, leading the defense until the men in the fields returned to drive away the attackers. Since then, He'e'e has been impersonated as a katsina, always depicted with her hair partially styled, symbolizing her courage and decisive action.

This carving by Logan Dallas captures the spirit of the Warrior Maid with intricate craftsmanship and attention to the cultural significance of her story, making it a meaningful and visually compelling piece. Signed LDALLAS on the top of the base.
