According to some accounts, the Left-Handed Katsina (Siyangephoya) has origins connected to the Hualapai people. A distinctive feature of this Katsina is its reversed orientation. Unlike other Katsinam who typically use their left hand to draw arrows from their quivers, Siyangephoya utilizes its right hand. This unusual characteristic is reflected in the Katsina's peculiar movements, marked by strange steps. Despite these eccentricities, Siyangephoya is renowned for its hunting prowess and is considered by some to be a powerful spirit. In carvings, the Katsina is often depicted holding an eagle or with a deer slung over its shoulder, symbolizing its hunting abilities. In this particular representation, the Katsina is shown carrying a ram, further emphasizing its strength and connection to the hunt.

A young and rising star in the world of Hopi carving, Aaron J. Fredericks hails from the village of Shungopavi on Second Mesa, Arizona. Rooted in tradition, Aaron's work reflects the rich cultural heritage that surrounds him. He finds inspiration in his daily life and the vibrant themes that permeate his home environment, often seen beautifully incorporated into the bases of his carvings.

Aaron's talent has quickly garnered recognition in the competitive art world. He has consistently excelled at prestigious juried shows, including the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum's Indian Art Show, and the Museum of Northern Arizona's Hopi Show, where he has achieved numerous "Best of Division" awards. His work is highly sought after and can be found in the collections of discerning art enthusiasts.
