Ray Naha, Hopi-Tewa Carver

Hopi-Tewa artist Ray Naha has continued making traditional Hopi Pueblo Katsina Doll carvings throughout his career. He is also a talented painter. He started carving when in his early teens and has continued making traditional dolls with natural materials.

Ray Naha, a Hopi-Tewa of the Roadrunner Clan, was born in 1977. He lives in the village of Polacca at the base of First Mesa. He is a descendant of the famous Hopi-Tewa potter, Nampeyo of Hano. He is her great-great-great-grandson, and the great-great grandson of Annie Healing. His grandmother was Daisy Hooee Nampeyo, a famous potter. He was named after his grandfather, Raymond Naha (1930-1976), the famous Hopi Pueblo painter.
