The Hopi Shalako Taka is an awe-inspiring figure in Hopi culture, standing up to eight feet tall and captivating observers with its graceful movements. This slender, shoulderless katsina bows and dips in a fluid, almost dance-like manner, embodying a sense of ceremonial grace. Always accompanied by his sister, the Shalako Mana, along with Hahai-i Wihti and the Tukwinong Katsinas, the Shalako Taka is an integral figure in Hopi rituals. The male Shalako Taka wears blue moccasins, while his female counterpart, the Shalako Mana, dons white ones — signifying their distinct roles in the ceremony.

This Shalako Taka doll's attire enhances his stature and sacred presence. One of the most remarkable features of his costume is a large headdress, adorned with long feathers that extend outward and upward, emphasizing his towering height. His clothing includes a finely rendered sash and kilt, carefully designed with traditional Hopi motifs, while a flowing kilt showcases geometric patterns that carry Hopi cultural significance.

Clyde Honyouti, also known as Na-uikuitaka (Peeping Out Man), is the father of renowned katsina carvers Ronald and Brian. His artistic influence has played a pivotal role in shaping his sons into some of the most accomplished contemporary katsina carvers. In his early years, while herding sheep, Clyde would find a single piece of wood and carve away at it, bringing figures to life. This humble practice evolved into the Honyouti family's signature "one-piece" masterpieces. Today, much of Clyde's work is privately held and not available for sale, making this particular piece one of the rare few to be available.
