These stunning squash blossom earrings are a classic example of what is probably Diné of the Navajo Nation silversmithing. The finely polished and flawless triangular turquoise stones, a beautiful shade of blue-green, are set in silver. A single, delicately crafted squash blossom dangles from each earring, adding a touch of elegance and movement.
The screwback closures have been converted, but the original "B" and spiral stampings are still visible, offering a glimpse into the history of these earrings.
The Navajo learned silversmithing from the Spanish in the middle of the 19th century. One of the earliest designs they made was what is referred to as a "Squash Blossom." It resembles the blossom of a pomegranate squash.
These earrings are fashioned for pierced ears.
