Walt Gonske Original Painting titled “On Coyote Creek” [SOLD]

"On Coyote Creek" is an original oil painting by New Mexico artist Walt Gonske. For this piece, Gonske ventured about an hour south of Taos to the Coyote Creek area. Tucked into the Sangre de Cristo mountains, this peaceful stream and its wildlife-rich surroundings create an ideal environment for hikers, campers, and of course, artists in search of inspiration.

Gonske focused his eye on one small corner of the Coyote Creek area. The viewer sees the creek winding along a steep hillside, passing through a cluster of trees. It is winter, but the sun shines intensely. What appears to be a human figure seeks shade, which is provided by a tree rising from the hill's base. Gonske's brushwork creates a dreamy and inviting scene. His color palette is fairly straightforward, but touches of purple and orange enhance the natural magic.

The painting is signed Gonske in lower left. It is framed in a hand carved gold frame.

Walt Gonske is an artist who was born in Newark, New Jersey. In the 1970s, he left his job as a fashion illustrator and moved to New Mexico, where he pursued his art full time. "Painting is not about reproducing nature," Gonske says. "I like the notion that art should have more to do with the communication of the artist's emotions to the viewer through the paint itself. My goal in the work is not to show what I know, but what I feel. The more intensely I can express emotion through paint about the subject, the more likely the viewer will respond."

Walt Gonske (1942- ) has received many notable awards and accolades, and his works are included in a number of prominent museum collections.
