Walt Gonske, Western Painter

Western painter Walt Gonske has received many notable awards and accolades, and his works are included in several prominent museum collections.

"Painting is not about reproducing nature," Gonske says. "I like the notion that art should have more to do with the communication of the artist's emotions to the viewer through the paint itself. My goal in the work is not to show what I know, but what I feel. The more intensely I can express emotion through paint about the subject, the more likely the viewer will respond."

Walt Gonske was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1942. In the 1970s, he left his job as a fashion illustrator and moved to New Mexico, where he pursued his art full time.
