One wonders what participation Julian had in a plate that has no decoration as painting designs on Maria’s pottery was usually his contribution. But, behind the scenes, he always did more than just paint designs. He helped dig and gather clay and assisted in working the clay to remove impurities and prepare it for Maria to start using it. He also was responsible for building the kiln and firing the pottery. Just because there is no design does not mean he had no part in the production.
This plate is completely devoid of decoration. It is signed Marie & Julian, with the signature imbedded into the clay.
Condition: this Stone-polished Black Plate signed Marie and Julian is in very good condition with no noticeable flaws
Provenance: from the collection of a family from Pennsylvania
