Rinehart is famous for his photographs of Native American personalities and scenes but particularly for photographing those who attended the 1898 Indian Congress in Omaha. This platinum photograph of Geronimo is stamped on the left margin with ©1898 F.A.Rinehart Omaha, an indication that this photograph was taken of Geronimo at that time and place.
Rinehart’s photographs portray Native American persons with character and sensitivity showing strengths of those photographed. It is because of his presentations that other photographers began presenting Indians in such a manner.
Condition: appears to be in original condition and has not been taped to any surface.
Provenance: current owner purchased the photograph from Canfield Gallery, Santa Fe, on March 2, 2001 and received a personal written guarantee of the authenticity of the Rinehart photo from Kenneth Canfield, a copy of which is provided.
