This carved redware jar was made by Santa Clara Pueblo artist Mary Ester Archuleta (1942-2010) in the 1970s. Though she may not have been as prolific, Archuleta's skills clearly matched those of her better-known sisters.
With this piece, Archuleta offers a unique take on pueblo pottery by including a tall polished red undecorated neck over a wide seed jar base. It's a carved redware piece with an appealing shape. Her choice of design was one with a minimalist concept—only four cloud designs. Archuleta did an excellent job with the stone polished exterior, leaving a deep and glossy finish.
