Fannie Pete is a well-known weaver of Navajo rugs and particularly of a folk-art style. She was represented in the collection of Chuck and Jan Rosenak, collectors and authors of Navajo folk art. She is a daughter of Bessie Pete, another famous Navajo weaver, and a sister of Julia Pete, also a famous weaver.
This textile features heads of six horses, in colors of olive, white, cream, black, burgundy and cinnamon. Each of the horses has its mane in additional yarn superimposed over the plane of the textile. I am not familiar with any other weaver who has done this or who is doing this now. It apparently is the creation of Fannie Pete.
