Santa Clara Pueblo artist Daryl Duane Whitegeese (b.1965) is the son of LuAnn Tafoya. Growing up in the Tafoya family of potters, it was inevitable that Daryl would eventually be tempted to work with clay. He said he made his first complete pot when he was 32 years old. He learned the techniques from his mother, LuAnn, and his grandmother, Margaret Tafoya. He has now mastered all the techniques to perfection.
This tall black jar shows evidence of his mother's style which he obviously learned from her. It has a beautiful shape in its balanced form. The carved design band was executed with precision and the burnishing was masterly performed. An excellent firing produced a beautiful black finish with a high gloss.
