This rare and imaginative Cochiti effigy pitcher stands 9.5 inches tall and spans 9 inches in width. While traditional Cochiti Pueblo effigy pitchers often depicted animals, and date back to the 1800s, this unique piece features a human-headed spout, suggesting it was created at a later date. The most distinctive Cochiti attribute of this pitcher lies in its expressive eyes, a hallmark of the pueblo's signature pottery style. It also has one pierced ear.

The form is well-balanced, with a stable, flat base supporting its round, globular body. The surface is adorned with four circular motifs, each containing vertically stacked triangular designs. These patterns may symbolize plant forms, adding a naturalistic element to the overall design.

Both functional and artistic, this effigy pitcher reflects the creative spirit of Cochiti Pueblo potters. It would have been used for holding water or other liquids, although it may also have served ceremonial or decorative purposes. This piece beautifully captures the tradition and innovation of Cochiti pottery.
