Special Offer: The consignor has authorized us to reduce the price of this Hopi jar from $650.00 to a new price of only $450, a reduction greater than 25%.

There is very little published information on Anita Polacca. She is a daughter of Violet Huma and she lives at the Village of Sichomovi on First Mesa. She is listed as a grandmother and an active potter since around 1940. I have been unable to determine if she is currently active as a potter.

Anita certainly is an accomplished potter. The vessel shape of this jar is exquisite. It is long and graceful and expands just above mid-section in a manner that provides substance and volume. A short collar style neck rises straight upward thereby completing the upward thrust of the jar.

The design is a bold rendition of a Sikyatki style avian form. It is repeated only twice—once on front and then on the opposite side. By keeping the number of designs to only two, the potter was able to make each one large and prominent.

There is a wide framing line just below the rim and a pair of narrow framing lines just below that. All three feature ceremonial line breaks. The jar is in remarkable condition.

NOTE: Tim Weiss of Earth to Arts was kind enough to let us know that Anita Polacca is alive and well and still making pottery.
