Anita Garcia Lowden was the daughter of Jesse Garcia and sister of Stella Shutiva. She was one of the earlier Acoma potters to use Mimbres designs. She passed away at a relatively young age before her work could be appreciated and collected by the wave of collectors that sprang up in the decades following the 1970s.
This wonderful white seed jar with two Mimbres bugs of some sort is in very good condition. It is signed Anita Lowden Acoma New Mexico.
Provenance: From the estate of Transcendental artist Florence Pierce of Albuquerque who passed away in 2007 at the age of 89. She was best known for luminescent paintings made of pigmented resins on reflective surfaces. Her interest in abstraction began in the 1930s when she was an associate of the Transcendental Painting Group. The New York Times called her
