Artist signature of Vincent Dawahongva Hopi Pueblo.

Vincent Dawahongva (1944-2007) is celebrated for his masterful wood carvings of ceremonial dancers that honor Apache tradition and culture. A Hopi artist married to an Apache, he is widely recognized as the premier carver of Apache Gaan figurines. Drawing on his experience carving Katsina dolls, he used cottonwood root to create his pieces. His Gaan dancer carvings are renowned for their refinement, lifelike detail, and dynamic poses, making them some of the most sophisticated examples of this art form.
