Angel and Ralph Bailon: A Dynamic Duo of Pueblo Art
Hailing from the rich artistic traditions of New Mexico's Pueblos, Angel and Ralph Bailon have captivated art enthusiasts with their stunning pottery creations.
Angel, born 1968 at Jemez Pueblo, inherited her artistic talent from her mother, Marie Coriz. After marrying Ralph Bailon and moving to Santo Domingo Pueblo, they embarked on a collaborative journey in 1979, producing exquisite pottery for the global market.
This dynamic duo seamlessly divides their artistic responsibilities: Angel skillfully shapes the clay into beautiful forms, while Ralph adds intricate and vibrant designs with his brush. Together, they bring their creations to life through the ancient art of firing. Their repertoire includes a diverse range of figurines, such as storytellers, nativity sets, Singing Angels, and Flights to Egypt, each piece imbued with cultural significance and artistic finesse.
Ralph, a descendant of a renowned silversmithing family, also lends his expertise to crafting exquisite jewelry necklaces, further enriching their artistic offerings.
To authenticate their work, each piece is meticulously signed A. R. Bailon, often accompanied by the word "Kewa," signifying their deep connection to Santo Domingo Pueblo.
The Bailons' dedication to preserving Pueblo artistic traditions and their innovative approach to pottery-making have solidified their reputation as leading figures in the world of Native American art.
