The Buffalo Dancer – A Special Exhibit in Watercolors
February 12, 2024 until March 12, 2024
In The Buffalo Dancer - A Special Exhibit in Watercolors we feature paintings by San Ildefonso Pueblo artist José Encarnacion Peña. One painting is the largest of his I have ever seen. I love his paintings because of their somewhat primitive and innocent look. I think he was recording dances at the pueblo as he saw them or remembered them rather than painting for the sake of selling them. I never felt he was selling his paintings as much as he was sharing them.
Artist José Encarnacion Peña (1902-1979) Soqween - So Kwa A Weh (Frost on the Mountain) Enky's, was a sincere person and I am happy to have known him, if only for a short time.
