Louis Naranjo (1932-1997) signatureCochiti Pueblo potter Louis Naranjo was the creator of the bear storyteller figurine.  He said he was hunting one day and saw a mother bear watching her two cubs playing nearby.  That gave him the idea for the figurines.

This black bear female is spread out on the ground with her front legs up under her chin.  Her cub, resting on her back, has its legs up under its chin too.
