Louis (1932-1997) and Virginia Naranjo (b.1932) worked side by side at their kitchen table making storytellers for years. Louis had a particularly sharp sense of humor and enjoyed fashioning images of tourists in their various varieties of clothing, cameras, hats and sunscreen. Louis made female tourists in bikinis and males with big stomachs. I think he enjoyed poling fun at the very people who were purchasing his figurines.
This pottery figurine is more traditional. It features a Cochiti drummer with drum and drum stick. On his shoulder is one child, probably a grandchild. The adult is dressed beautifully in a decorated shirt over which he wears a vest. He has traditional pueblo trousers and moccasins and wears a headband over his forehead. The young boy is dressed similarly.
For someone who wants a male and female pair, this male pairs well with the female which is our inventory number C3688.08 (click here to view now).
