Mostly, this artist is known to collectors as Percy Sandy or Kai-Sa, but Sandy is a corruption of his name, which is Tsisete. Generally, however, he signed Percy Sandy or Kai-Sa. He was born at Zuni Pueblo in 1918 and attended elementary and secondary schools in Zuni. He attended Santa Fe Indian School to do postgraduate work. He later moved from Zuni to Taos where he died in 1974.
The placement of the pair of fawn close together is probably an indication that they are young siblings out for an experience. They have discovered a pair of rabbits foraging for a bit of grass in a fairly desolate area. Take note of the fine detail in presenting the hair of the fawn and rabbits. This was a trait of Kai-Sa when painting animals. He was very astute at fine details.
Condition: appears to be in original condition
