A Pair of Eagles Perched on a Rock Cliff [SOLD]

When a youngster grows up on the Navajo Reservation, as did Beatien Yazz, everything he sees and learns reinforces his beliefs in the natural world.  The Navajo believe one is in harmony with nature when one is well, and is no longer in harmony with nature when sick.  There is a strong belief in how important nature is in its effect on the individual. It is no wonder, then, that so many Native painters focus their art on nature, landscapes, horses, clouds and rain, and the abundance of animals and birds.

Throughout the large Navajo reservation, there are many animals and birds and these are regularly seen by those who live there.  Beatien Yazz here has presented us with two beautiful eagles perched high on a rock cliff, much as he probably saw many times during his life. They are the focus of the painting, with the rock cliff rendered in outline form only.  The deep brown of the eagles against the cream background presents them in their most beautiful manner.

The painting is framed with a carved design in the mat and a dark brown wood frame.  It is signed in lower right B. Yazz and dated ’79. 

Condition:  appears to be in original condition but has not been examined out of the frame.  It was recently framed using acid-free mat material and foam core on the back.
