An original painting of a fawn by Navajo artist Harrison Begay was inserted under glass on the box lid.

Harrison Begay (1914-2012) Haskay Yahne Yah - The Wandering BoyThis tin box bears all the hallmarks of a New Mexican tinsmith.  It was made from sheet tin and soldered in the traditional manner.  Semicircle punched designs are on all four sides of the top edge of the box.  An original painting of a fawn by Navajo artist Harrison Begay was inserted under glass on the box lid.

 

On the bottom of the box, hand written is “Circa 1949 Made for Bette Short Gallery—Tucson, AZ Harrison Begay watercolor.”
