This second volume, entitled Kiowa Voices: Myths, Legends, and Folktales, presents Kiowa stories against the historical background of the Kiowas' life in the Yellowstone, their migration onto the northern Plains with its horse-buffalo culture, and their entry into the southern Plains, where they and their Comanche allies became dominant.

The Kiowas have checked their tribal knowledge against the studies and reports of ethnologists, linguists, historians, and observers before approving their account. Where tribal knowledge disagrees with other accounts, the Kiowas have given their version in this book.

The growth and evolution of the Kiowa tribal character is nowhere more strongly reflected than in the myths and folktales of the tribe, and tribal psychology is especially reflected through the mythic Saynday. In this second volume of Kiowa Voices, members of the Kiowa Historical and Research Society present their versions of the Saynday stories, many of which are published for the first time. Kiowas traditionally have emphasized two aspects of Saynday
