Hopi Pueblo artist Kyrate Tuvahoema (1914-1942) was celebrated for his distinctive depictions of Katsinas, characterized by their tall and lean forms, and meticulous detail and vibrant color in their costumes, masks, and paraphernalia1.
Tuvahoema received his education at Indian schools in Hopi Pueblo, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque. While modeling and shading to create depth were not his strongest skills, his precise drafting was highly regarded.
