William Penhallow Henderson (1877-1943) moved to Santa Fe in 1916 with his well-known poet wife, Alice Corbin Henderson. They had a daughter Alice Colquitt.
Henderson was overwhelmed with the light, shapes, and people of the area. He was in awe of the roundness of the hills and the texture of the adobe buildings and the picturesque natives. The Museum of Fine Arts of the Museum of New Mexico mounted a retrospective exhibit of Henderson's work in 1963.
