Nyla is the Great-granddaughter of Annie Healing Nampeyo; granddaughter of Rachel Namingha Nampeyo; daughter of Priscilla Namingha; sister of Bonnie Chapella Nampeyo, Finkle Sahmie, Rachel Sahmie, Randy Sahmie, Jean Sahme, Andrew Louie Sahmie, and Foster Sahmie.Hopi/Tewa artist Nyla Sahmie Nampeyo is a distinguished potter known for her exquisite black and red-on-yellow seed jars and vases, as well as black and red on white wedding vases. She has been avtively making pottery since 1970.
Nyla Sahmie Nampeyo (1954- ) is a proud descendant of a renowned lineage of potters: she is the great-granddaughter of Annie Healing Nampeyo, granddaughter of Rachel Namingha Nampeyo, and daughter of Priscilla Namingha. Her siblings include Bonnie Chapella Nampeyo, Finkle Sahmie, Rachel Sahmie, Randy Sahmie, Jean Sahme, Andrew Louie Sahmie, and Foster Sahmie.
