This 9-page article was published in connection with an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1943 of religious sculpture and painting by frontier artists of Spanish descent. Most of the works were from artists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries from communities of New Mexico. The older material was supplemented with a group of twentieth-century wood carvings by two New Mexican artists working in a similar tradition.
