“Indian Dances” and Their Meaning

by Mrs. Julia Fragua Whitecloud

March 14, 1953

This is a small publication of just a few sentences each of 9 pueblo dances.  There are no photos.  It is very brief, only 7 pages.  It seems like a publication handed out to visitors attending a pueblo dance.  I think its value is in its rarity.  The author is from the Laguna and Apache tribes and her husband is from Jemez Pueblo.

The described dances are:

The Horsetail Dance

Deer Dance

The Apache Devil Dance

War Dance

Buffalo Dance

The Feather Dance

Hoop Dance

Eagle Dance

The Laguna Dogtail Dance
