From the Introduction

The Fremont area includes most of Utah and is circumscribed largely by the Virgin and Paria River drainages and Kaiparowits Plateau to the southwest, the Colorado River to the southeast, the Uinta Mountains to the northeast, and the area surrounding the Great Salt Lake to the north.

Based on color and general method of manufacture, three ceramic traditions are represented in the Fremont cultural area.
