Exhibit Catalog DESCRIPTION
Anthony Berlant provides a beautiful description of the Mimbres culture and their amazing pottery which was first discovered in 1910 in New Mexico. He describes the life of the Mimbres as one of peace stating that no evidence of warfare had been discovered. The river was abundant with fish, deer and antelope lived in the area along with elk, bear, mountain lions and smaller animals such as rabbits, squirrels, coyotes, prairie dogs and wild turkeys.
He describes the vast amount of pottery that was geometric in style and the beautiful painted bowls with images of humans, animals, birds and insects. The 55 Mimbres pottery items illustrated are excellent examples of the craft.
