From Her Book Hopi Kachina Dolls and their carvers:

Theda Bassman has been a long-time admirer and friend of the Hopi people. Her love of nature, back-packing, and river running experiences brought her to Arizona where she first met the Hopi people. She began collecting American Indian art forty years ago, an interest which led to her conducting business as an Indian trader. Subsequently, she opened a gallery, The Indian and I, in Beverly Hills, California. Theda Bassman is an environmentalist, a feminist, a hospice volunteer and she loves chamber music. She lives in Palm Desert, California and in the forest on the Mogollon Rim in Arizona with her husband, Michael.
