From the Preface:

The revitalization of pottery-making among the Indians of the Southwest has increased demand for more information about potters and their art. Museums display Casas Grandes pottery, collectors cherish it, scholars study it, yet books available about this subject are few and in many cases outdated.

The purpose of this book is to provide the general public with an up-to-date account of the pottery tradition of the Casas Grandes Valley. So much has happened in the last few years, we felt a book would be of immense value to scholars, collectors, dealers, students and anyone intrigued by the pottery of the Southwest and its exciting metamorphosis during the past century.

To present the reader with an uninterrupted and unencumbered report on the status of modern pottery in the Casas Grandes Valley, we have purposely stayed away from the scholarly approach. Since pottery is a visual art, we thought we would take you on a visual journey to the Casas Grandes Valley, where you can walk down the dusty streets of the old village and enter the homes of these humble, yet highly creative people. Here you can see for yourself what's happening.

Accompanied by a Spanish translation by Julia Gates.
