Plateau bags, commonly called Nez Perce or cornhusk bags, were one of the primary forms of artistic expressions of the Native American women in the Plateau region. Originally totally utilitarian, these flat, twined containers were once among the objects most commonly associated with the Plateau area. Along with numerous other groups, the Nez Perce, Umatilla, Walla Walla and Yakima peoples created these highly inventive works.
