William Lumpkins is a Santa Fe architect who was born in New Mexico in 1910 and grew up familiar with fine examples of Southwestern adobe architecture. An honored pioneer in solar technology, he built his first solar house in Capitan, New Mexico, in 1935. Besides La Casa Adobe, which was the first book published by Ancient City Press in 1961, Lumpkins, has written Modern Spanish Pueblo Homes (1946), Casa del Sol: Your Guide to Passive Solar House Design (1981), and articles on adobe architecture.
