According to the Social Security Death Index (a government publication) Sadie Tsipa was born on July 1, 1915 and passed away on March 12, 2010. She lived 94 years, 8 months, and 11 days according to the report. I am not familiar with her as a potter, however, it is quite likely that she was no longer active in the late 1970s when I opened the gallery and started purchasing from potters. She began making pottery around the 1940s and her pottery is included in the collections of the Peabody Museum, Harvard University. The heartline deer is acknowledged as the potter’s favorite design. She is also known for Zuni Pueblo traditional polychrome jars, bowls, owls, effigy jars, and frog pots.
