Nettie Ami

There is very little published information on Hopi potter Nettie Ami. In the late 1970s and early1980s, when I was visiting the Hopi villages on a regular basis every two weeks, I met Nettie Ami and purchased pottery from her but I never inquired about her date of birth or her family members. I actually purchased this jar from her in 1975 before I opened Adobe Gallery in Albuquerque Old Town in 1978. I sold it immediately to clients in Albuquerque in November of that year and now have it back from the estate.
What is published about Nettie Ami is that she was an active potter between 1940 and 1983 and that she is represented in the collection of the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff and published in that museum’s 1984 book Contemporary Hopi Pottery by Laura Graves Allen.
