Lorenzo Garcia
+ Add Artist to My Preferences
From Kewa Pueblo (Santo Domingo), with all its taboos and restrictions, emerged some of the finest art at The Studio of the Santa Fe Indian School. One of the young artists, Lorenzo Garcia, combined fantasy with naturalism in animal figures to produce paintings of pure delight. The viewer teeters between reality and make-believe.
Garcia was a student of Dorothy Dunn at The Studio and is mentioned in her book; however there is very little information about him otherwise. His works are rare according to Ray Dewey* of Dewey Galleries of Santa Fe, who is an acknowledged expert on early pueblo paintings.
