Jerry Jordan was born in 1944, and raised in a small town outside of Lubbock,Texas. In his teens, and after repeated requests for instruction from Paris, Texas, artist R.W. Thrasher, he was grudgingly allowed to study with him in the summers of 1961 and 1962.
Jerry Jordan and his wife live in Taos, New Mexico, and have on a permanent basis since 1985. He lived there briefly in the 1960s so he has had exposure to Taos artist's work for almost a half century.
He fell in love with paintings by the early 20th-century Taos painters hanging on the walls of the lobby, dining room and hallways of the Kachina Lodge where his family stayed. It was this exposure that set the stage for his life work as an artist and his love affair with Taos that has matured and lasted throughout his life.
Jordan continues to draw inspiration from the Taos masters. His paintings are rich and vivid; seeming to capture not only beautiful images of Taos landscapes and pueblo life, but also the feeling of Taos itself, using his mastery of color and strong brushwork to create incredible texture.
