Doug Coffin (1946- ) is a Native American painter of contemporary art and a sculptor. He says that his sense of 'apartness' comes from his Potawatomi/Creek Indian roots. He spent his first 20 years living on the grounds of the Indian boarding school in Lawrence, Kansas, where his father was a sports coach. During the summers, he went to stay with his grandmother on the Potawatomi Reservation.
