Dough bowls have been dated based on designs, as other elements of manufacture did not change after the 1870s.  Designs did not change significantly during the 19th century but some variations seem apparent.  The undulating red band, outlined in black, which encircles the bowl, is a design that appears around 1875 and has continued to be used to the present.

This dough bowl dates to around 1890-1900.  Its main element of design is the red undulating element encircling the bowl.  Above it are cloud forms and below it are water forms.  A wide red band was wiped on under the design panels.

Condition:  Ultraviolet examination of the dough bowl confirms that there has been no restoration to the vessel.  It is in original condition.

Provenance: From a New Mexico pottery collector
