This striking Hopi Bracelet with a Spider motif just arrived at the gallery. The overlay technique was used in crafting this bracelet from sterling silver.  This process involves taking a sheet of silver and cutting the design into the blank with a jewelers saw. Examine the stylized detail in the depiction of the spider with its symbols on its body, and you will see this is expertly done. The artist has also cut out the silver to the sides of the spider so that they mimic the spider's web. After the top piece of silver with the design has been finished, a second piece of silver is cut to match the overall shape of the first piece. In this instance, the artist has added a fine texturing to this second piece. Both pieces are then soldered together creating this nice wide silver cuff. Polishing the bracelet is the last step in the process.

hallmarkAt its widest point the bracelet measures 1-15/16 "wide, with the ends tapering down to 7/8". The inside diameter of the bracelet measures 5-7/8", with a 1-1/8" opening between the ends.

This is a signed piece, though we are unable to identify the maker. The initials EN are stamped underneath what looks to be a sun symbol. The bracelet is also stamped STERLING. We think that this wonderful Hopi cuff would date to the 1980s. Please let us know if this piece interests you.
