This painting is a companion to another painting by Beatien Yazz entitled "Squaw Dance Procession #2" which is listed on our website as well and shown as a related item below. The previous one shows six Diné young men on horseback heading for the occasion. This one illustrates two females and two males also heading for the celebration.
The Diné enjoy get-togethers, probably because they are so isolated on the reservation. Individual family hogans could be as much as 60 miles apart. Ceremonial Sings, Yeibichai Dances, and Squaw Dances are good reasons for the clans to gather in large numbers.
There seems to be a certain amount of jubilation of the young men and women as they race toward the site of the gathering. One can speculate at their anticipation of the gathering. They appear ready for a party, dressed in their finest.
Condition: It appears to be in original excellent condition, but has not been examined out of the frame.
Provenance: from a family estate in Utah
