Close up of 4 of the stamps

This official United States postage stamp was issued on September 4, 1986 at Window Rock, Arizona, the capital of the Navajo Nation.  This stamp is one in a series of Folk Art commemoratives. The images are based on actual Navajo blankets, three of which are housed in the Museum of the American Indian in New York and one in the Lowe Art Museum in Miami.

The 1986 United States Twenty-Two Cent Postage Stamp Sheet on Navajo Art was issued to coincide with the annual Navajo Nation Fair held at Window Rock, Arizona.  Blanket weaving has been an important part of Navajo culture for centuries.
