Beatien Yazz was fond of painting animals, birds, insects and other creatures and often presented them in humorous situations. In this painting, a pair of young bear cubs is trying to outrun a swarm of bees but the cub on the right has just been stung on his rear and other bees are fast approaching.
Yazz was one of the last of the early 20th-century Native painters to pass away. He and Harrison Begay outlived their contemporaries and both men painted to near the ends of their lives. They are the two painters that most collectors of today remember and with whom they are familiar because they were alive and painting during most of the 20th century. Both men left a wonderful legacy in art.
This painting was executed on artist board and has just been framed using acid-free materials and a dark brown wood frame. It is ready to hang and enjoy.
