Once Known Native American Potter

It is often difficult to distinguish pottery from the Northern Pueblos of Taos and Picuris because both use micaceous clay and no design decorations on their wares.  In the past, there have been more potters at Taos than Picuris.  So generally, when not signed, pottery is attributed to Taos Pueblo, which is what we have done in this instance.

The vessel is remarkably thin-walled and well formed.  There is an abundance of fire clouds on one side of the vessel and none on the opposite side.  It is a very good example of pottery from the Northern Pueblo region.

Condition:  very good condition

Provenance: from the collection of Katherine H. Rust
