Corn Moquino, Santa Clara Pueblo Potter

Corn Moquino (1929- ) signatureCorn Moquino is of Zia and Hopi heritage. He married into Santa Clara Pueblo and has been making Santa Clara style pottery since around 1963. He is one of the earlier potters to employ sgraffito style carving. 

 

In this jar, Moquino designed the neck with traditional eagle feathers.  The body of the jar, below the eagle feathers, is a pictorial scene of quail and yucca.  There are three quail in various positions, separated by two yucca plants in bloom.

 

Condition: very good condition

Provenance: from a gentleman from South Carolina
