Santa Clara Pueblo artist Denny Gutierrez was a potter producing well-balanced and beautifully burnished blackware. This swirl melon jar features well-proportioned and spaced swirl ribs from top to bottom of the jar. The slant of the ribs were designed to reflect light which they do beautifully. It is a graceful jar and in original condition.
Denny (1942-2013) was the son of Katherine Gutierrez and had won awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market every year for a decade. The jar is signed Denny Gutierrez Santa Clara and dated ’93.
