Sections of lapis and opal gemstones form the figure of a bear with a heartline in this ring made by Zuni Pueblo artist Rolanda Haloo. Rolanda expertly fashioned an inlaid blue bear with a heartline leading to a circle in the center. The circle is divided into four sections, with an opal in the middle. Rolanda Haloo (1956-) learned to make jewelry from her father, Jacob Haloo. Her work is characterized by intricate lapidary work set carefully into silver.

It is interesting to note that many of the jewelry pieces we are featuring from the Rubin collection are pieces made by artists early in their careers who later became award-winning jewelry makers. This bear ring was purchased by Marvin and Betty Rubin in 1996 directly from the artist.  The ring is engraved on the inside Rolanda Haloo, Zuni, 1996.

The bear symbol is known to represent power and adaptability in Native American culture.  You might enjoy watching the referenced video on Native American symbolism.

Condition: the ring is in very good condition with some scratches which is normal for a ring that was lovingly worn on a daily basis.

Provenance: this Rolanda Haloo Zuni Pueblo Silver, Opal and Lapis Inlay Bear Ring is from the estate of Marvin and Betty Rubin
